Bommarito is a graduate (1997, Blue Ribbon Status) of The Institute of Culinary Education (formerly, Peter Kumps New York Cooking School) located in the heart of Manhattan, NY.  

 

She is accredited in the Culinary Arts.

 

In addition to her culinary degree, she received her Undergraduate Degree from The University of Michigan in 1990 where she earned a BSA in Marketing Management, with a Minor in Psychology.

 

While living and working in New York, Bommarito had the privilege of being employed by the historic and world-renowned Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, NY.  Supporting the Executive Chef with the preparation of recipes for fine pastries and desserts was a daily responsibility for Bommarito.   

 

Significant culinary experiences also include being a Freelance Artist for Martha Stewart Omni Media in Westport, CT and at Living Magazine in Manhattan.  This unique career opportunity afforded her the ability to develop and expand her own research and development capabilities.  In fact, Bommarito appeared alongside Martha Stewart during a spring 2000 program where she demonstrated assembly of an intricately themed “Spring Garden” cake.

 

The distinctiveness and uniqueness of Bommarito’s designs and cakes have been subject to numerous newspaper and magazine articles including, Detroit Free Press, Martha Stewart Living, Oakland Style Magazine, Bride’s Magazine.

 

In May 2004, Bommarito was invited to participate in a Bride Magazine Special Edition spotlighting 20 Wedding Cake Designers from around the country. In February Bommarito was featured as one of 24 Top Designers.

 

In February 2004 Bommarito was selected one of five wedding cake designers to compete in Food Network first wedding cake challenge television program.

 

Bommarito continues to accept invitations to compete in Food Network challenges and has competed in nine challenges thus far.  (Bringing home one gold medal and four silver medals).

 

In September 2004, Bommarito was asked to be Athlete Michael Jordan’s personal chef during his week long visit for the 35th Ryder Cup held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  To this day, this is one of Bommarito's favorite experiences.

 

Bommarito has over 21 years of professional and personal experience in the hospitality and food service industry.  

 

Early in her career, she played a central and vital role in managing the family run Italian Market, Bommarito Brothers CO. Bommarito also worked in Sales ad Marketing in the hotel industry for Hilton and Marriott Corporations.

 

For the past 10 years, Bommarito was sole-proprietor of her own company Michelle Bommarito LLC, which designed and created Wedding cakes, Cookies and Fine Pastries.

 

During those years, Bommarito also shared her passion for cooking by offering an array of Interactive Culinary courses for individuals, groups and corporate “Team Building “ events throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area.  Locations include Schoolcraft College, Specialties Showroom, Whole Foods Market, Crittenton Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital.

 

In 2009, Bommarito stepped out of the Bake Shoppe and is now focusing on expanding her teachings throughout the United States of America and Internationally.

 

Currently Bommarito travels extensively to offer “Eating Well” Speaking Engagements, Super Power Food Culinary Demonstrations, Inspirational Wedding Cake Design Workshops and to judge Cake Competitions.
